Julie Colon Koriakin
Member, Board of Directors and Secretary 2011-2012
Julie is currently the branch executive director of the Cowart Family/Ashford Dunwoody YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta. The branch is a 9.5 million dollar operation that serves more than 13,000 members from the Chamblee, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs and Dunwoody Area. Julie came to Atlanta from Madison, New Jersey, where she was the executive director of the Madison Area YMCA Family Center.
She started her YMCA career in 1994 and joined the Madison Y in 1995, where she was promoted to various positions from associate member services director to executive director. As the executive director in Madison, Julie spearheaded an initiative that created the first Children's Wellness Center in the state of New Jersey. Her deep commitment to serving children and families coupled with the YMCA mission has inspired her to continue the YMCA's work.
Julie graduated from William Paterson College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Before moving to Georgia she was working on her Masters in Public Administration degree at New York University's Wagner School of Public Administration. She completed the YMCA's Executive Development Program and received a 2003 service award from the Association of Professional YMCA Directors for extraordinary service to the organization, the YMCA and the community.
In New Jersey Julie was active in Rotary district 7470 as a member of the Florham Park Rotary Club. In 2000 she was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow and in 2002 she served as club president. Julie has been a Rotarian since 1996 and in her presidential year her club fulfilled all the requirements necessary to win a Presidential Citation. She is a current member of the Rotary Club of North Atlanta and recently won the club's Vocational Service Award.
Julie is a native New Yorker but spent most of her childhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. She and her husband Allen met in college where Julie played two division III sports. They have two children: Mia, 12 and Allen, 10.
Julie is a founding member of The Cross Keys Foundation.
