CK Robotics Jump Starts the Season

The Cross Keys Robotics teams boot-strapped their way into competition and fielded two teams at the first major VEX Robotics Qualifier at Arabia Mountain. Facing off against 36 of the top teams in Georgia, both CK teams completed the seeding rounds undefeated.

Endeavour One placed just behind Dunwoody HS, the current State Champion, while Endeavour Two, the only team with female students driving and operating, made the cut into the "Elite Eight" in the seventh position and earned the "Judges' Award" in the process.

The two teams (pictured at above right) worked feverishly and with dedication in the days and weeks leading up to the tournament. Working overtime in the CK lab until late hours at least four nights a week, the core teams pulled an all-nighter at Georgia Tech's twenty-four hour student workshop the night before the event.

The team finished their first bots in the wee hours of October 29 and left GT's campus around 7:00am to make the drive to Arabia Mountain HS. With no experience driving or operating their robots, these scrappy CK'ers made a big impression on the tournament and set the stage for a run at State, National and International competitions in coming months.

The Foundation would like to thank the following establishments and individuals that helped feed our students on all those late nights at CK Lab: Doraville Chik fil-a, Elwood's Pizza, Sugar Shack, Brookhaven Jersey Mike's, Verde Tacqueria, Pizza Patron, Brian Bates and Kristin Gokce.

We all owe a big thanks to the following whose direct contributions made it possible for the Foundation to pay fees, buy parts, and get the students in the competion:

Jim Balkcom, John Balkcom, Mercer Dye, Margaret Panther, Margaret Morris, and Kim Gokce.

The Foundation is focusing on supporting the technology instruction and science and math education in our seven schools. We urgently need your support to keep the momentum going! Please donate what ever you can now. You can donate online or send checks payable to "Cross Keys Foundation" to:

City of Brookhaven Town Hall - Chance to Tour Cross Keys

Cross Keys HS will host a "Town Hall" meeting on the subject of Brookhaven cityhood this Tuesday, November 15. The recent release of the Carl Vinson Institute's report on the feasibility of a new city for Brookhaven will be discussed. The event begins at 7:00pm but you can come early for an escorted walk around the newly renovated school.

Drop by the school beginning around 6:15pm and student greeters will show you around the campus so you can see it for yourself. Be sure to stop by the four-bed hospital room where students train to receive their Certified Nursing Assistant credentials, the full dental lab, the AutoTech shop with full hydraulic lifts and modern diagnostics, and the Manufacturing Center with fabrication abilities that will blow your mind!
